Decision 2019: Jefferson Parish President Poll

In Louisiana, local offices may or not be held at the same time as the same fall elections where all statewide elected officials and members of the House and Senate are elected. Jefferson Parish is one of the parishes that does, and its Parish President’s race always attracts some attention, given that Jefferson Parish is one of Louisiana’s three largest parishes (the other two are East Baton Rouge and Orleans).

Three Republican candidates (current Parish President Mike Yenni, Councilwoman At-Large Cythina Lee-Sheng, and former Parish President John Young) were ballot tested. Respondents were also tested on whether they support a proposed tax to make Jefferson Parish teachers salaries competitive with neighboring parishes.

JMC was engaged to poll this race, and there are two takeaways from the poll (which can be found here): (1) Cynthia-Lee Sheng starts off with a noticeable lead, and (2) the undecided percentage is fairly high for three well known candidates.
