Now that 2024 elections have concluded (except for counting of approximately 10 million mail/provisional ballots across the country), it’s time to shift our focus to the 2025 elections. While 2025 will be a relatively quiet year both nationally and in Louisiana, New Orleans’ municipal elections are on October 11, 2025 (with a November 15 runoff, if necessary). Mayor LaToya Cantrell is term limited, so the open Mayor’s race will be a competitive one.

JMC Analytics and Polling was recently commissioned by local business/community leaders to poll those in the city of New Orleans about the Mayor’s race. Major takeaways from that poll are as follows:

(1) A majority of voters are pessimistic about the direction New Orleans is heading,
(2) City Council President/Councilwoman At Large Helena Moreno has a wide initial lead in the Mayor’s race,
(3) Moreno has overwhelming leads in various runoff matchups
