Decision 2015: JMCEL’s “bite sized politics” (House District 35)
INCUMBENT: Brett Geymann (Republican)
DESCRIPTION: House District 35 is located in the northern fringes of Lake Charles, and contains a mixture of urban, suburban, and rural precincts in Calcasieu and Beauregard Parishes, with just over 80% of the district vote coming from the Calcasieu precincts.
DISTRICT MAP:
RED/BLUE RATING (using 2008, 2012, and 2014 elections): 75% Republican
JMCEL’s SUMMARY: House District 35 was one of the first few districts in southwest Louisiana to elect a Republican to the House, which it did as long ago as 1987. As this region of the state has moved towards the Republicans, this district has become heavily Republican, and has re-elected its current representative (Brett Geymann) with little incident. Rep. Geymann is term limited, although Republicans should have little trouble holding into a seat which gave Mitt Romney and Bill Cassidy approximately 80% of the vote.
