Decision 2015: JMCEL’s “bite sized politics” (House District 69)
INCUMBENT: Erich Ponti (Republican)
DESCRIPTION: This is a district in Baton Rouge that contains a mixture of older and newer neighborhoods that are generally upper middle class, with some affluent neighborhoods.
DISTRICT MAP:
RED/BLUE RATING (using 2008, 2012, and 2014 elections): 69% Republican
JMCEL’s SUMMARY: While historically this is has been one of the few House districts that has elected Republicans for several decades (and is still pretty Republican), there has been a mild Democratic trend in the district, particularly in the older apartment complexes. While Rep. Ponti can serve another term, he decided not to seek re-election. Republicans will have little trouble holding onto this historically Republican district.
