Decision 2015: JMCEL’s “bite sized politics” (House District 15)

INCUMBENT: Frank Hoffmann (Republican)

DESCRIPTION: House District 15 contains most of Ouachita Parish west of the Ouachita River and can be thought of as “the West Monroe district.” It is a mixture of suburban and small town precincts, and contains some rural territory as well. While West Monroe is famous for being the epicenter of “Duck Dynasty”, the company headquarters are actually just outside this district.

RED/BLUE RATING (using 2008, 2012, and 2014 elections): 87% Republican

JMCEL’s SUMMARY: Western Ouachita Parish (particularly since the blacker sections of West Monroe were removed from the district after the 2011 reapportionment) consistently turns in some of the highest Republican percentages of any of the 105 state representative districts. Yet it did not start voting for Republican legislators 1995, when Mike Walsworth (who is now a state senator) defeated a Democratic incumbent. Since then, Republicans have been elected (and re-elected) here with little incident. The current incumbent is Frank Hoffmann, who was first elected in 2007 and was easily re-elected in 2011 with 81% of the vote against a Democratic opponent. He is allowed to serve one more term, and shouldn’t have any re-election troubles.
