Decision 2015: JMCEL’s “bite sized politics” (House District 52)
INCUMBENT: Gordon Dove (Republican)
DESCRIPTION: This is a district that includes the more affluent and Republican neighborhoods west of Houma. It also includes a small portion of Lafourche Parish.
DISTRICT MAP:
RED/BLUE RATING (using 2008, 2012, and 2014 elections): 73% Republican
JMCEL’s SUMMARY: While the Republican trend in down ballot races in south Louisiana has been a recent phenomenon, District 52 was one of the “early adopters” that has been electing Republicans for just over a decade, although in statewide races, this district has voted Republican for years. The current incumbent, Gordon Dove, has represented the district since 2004 and is term limited, although the Republicans have a very strong chance of holding onto the seat.
