DESCRIPTION: House District 78 is located in the Eastbank of Jefferson Parish and is centered in the suburbs of Harahan and River Ridge. From there, the district travels north along David Drive to take in additional territory between Kenner and Metairie.

JMCEL’s SUMMARY: District 78 is a heavily Republican suburban district with some affection for former senator (and New Orleans native) Mary Landrieu. Politically, it has only elected Republicans since a Democratic legislator switched parties in 1986. When the seat opened up in 2007, Republican Kirk Talbot was elected, and he was unopposed in 2011. He is allowed to serve one more term, and he should not have re-election problems. When the seat opens up in 2019, this seat is likely to remain in Republican hands.
